Amelia

Amelia is the story of Amelia Earhart, played by Hillary Swank, two-time Academy Award Winner.  The film is starting off to poor reviews from critics (3 in 10 giving a passing score in early reviews), I’m going to judge this one for myself since Hillary Swank is usually amazing and biographies of this type are generally worthwhile to me.  The film opens this weekend at several theatres in the county.

In other news, Paranormal Activity continues its expansion and surprisingly successful theatrical run.  On only 760 screens last week, it earned 20 million dollars and fell third in the box office, behind two releases of over 2000 screens.

The Boys are Back is now running at Reading Cinemas Gaslamp and not the Landmark Hillcrest.

Trucker

Trucker is a story of a mother who left her husband and son to live the life of a trucker. When the boy's father passes away, he is dumped on her doorstep after not seeing him for over a decade. Trucker opens today only at Reading Gaslamp Cinemas.

In other news, Paranormal Activity opens to more cities and regular times. Locally the film is playing at Regal Mira Mesa and AMC Mission Valley.

The Road

The Road is a film about a man and his son trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where cannibalism and barbarianism are the norm. The film stars Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. The opening date shown in the trailer is October 16th, however, according to the film's official website and Box Office Mojo, the release date is now November 25th. I bet the latter to be true. The trailer states a nationwide release, however, online, it is listed as limited. Early reviews are very positive and there is talk of Oscar nominations. Also, the film is based on a book written by the author of "No Country for Old Men".

In other news, "The Boys are Back" is now playing in Hillcrest. Also, "Paranormal Activity" opened in San Diego Thursday night at midnight to an audience of around 800 people. The film ended its first weekend tonight at AMC Mission Valley, but with such a strong response and positive feedback from the crowd, it should play again next weekend.
